Economic insider shows what's ahead

Former Federal Reserve official, Tom Simpson will give a talk on the U.S. economic recovery at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington on Nov. 3. His talk entitled, “Edging from the Abyss: Recovering from the Financial and Economic Crisis” will address what’s ahead for the financial system.

Cameron school expands global business initiative

The Cameron School of Business at UNCW recently received a $168,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to fund their new Global Business Initiative, a program in the Swain Center for Business and Economic Services. In addition to funding UNCW business student internships abroad, the funds will support a limited number of free advisory services for southeast North Carolina businesses interested in expanding their global reach.

2009 UNC Wilmington Economic Outlook Conference Oct. 6 to Focus on Regional Economic Recovery

The University of North Carolina Wilmington will host the sixth annual Economic Outlook Conference, presented by the Cameron School of Business, from 7:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, in the Burney Center on the UNCW campus. With the move to a new venue, the conference will now offer a seating arrangement of round tables, and attendees may purchase individual registrations or tables of eight.

UNC Wilmington Business Faculty: Local Economy Will Grow Faster than State and Nation in 2010 The local economy of Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties is forecast to expand 4 percent during 2010, more than that forecast for the state of North Carolina (1.5 percent) and the nation (2.1 percent). This forecast, developed by University of North Carolina Wilmington business faculty William W. "Woody" Hall Jr. and Ravija Badarinathi shows especially strong growth during the first half of 2010, followed by more modest growth over the second half. The national, state and local economies are all forecast to exit the recession by late 2009.
